"Detective Conan" Movie Surpasses $77 Million in Revenue, Exceeding Last Week's Performance
The 27th film in the "Detective Conan" anime series, "Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram," which premiered on April 12, has announced its latest box office figures. In 25 days since its release, the film has attracted 8.453 million viewers and has grossed approximately $77.72 million (according to Kogyo Tsushinsha).
The film continues to lead in the attendance rankings, with 1.13 million people and $10.53 million in revenue over the last weekend alone, surpassing last week’s performance and securing the top spot for the fourth consecutive week.
"Detective Conan" follows the story of high school detective Shinichi Kudo, who, after being poisoned by a mysterious organization, transforms into a child and takes on the alias Conan Edogawa. He solves various challenging cases while pursuing the shadowy group. The series, which began in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" in 1994, made its TV anime debut in 1996 and its film debut in 1997, and continues to be a national favorite to this day. The latest film opened with 630,000 attendees and earned $7.04 million on its first day. Toho, the distributor, reported that the film achieved 112% of the previous top-grossing Conan movie, "Detective Conan: The Iron Submarine" (which premiered on April 14, 2023, and earned $101.72 million), signaling a mega-hit start and the potential to set new all-time records. The current film features a dramatic confrontation between Heiji Hattori and the mysterious thief Kaito Kid in Hakodate. In a past case involving the Conch Pearl known as "Fairy's Lips," Hattori, disguised as his love interest Kazuha, was tricked into almost kissing Kid. This film explores whether Hattori can finally confess his feelings to Kazuha, overcoming his clumsy detective mishaps when she is involved. Supporting characters such as Momiji Ooka, Mugai Iori, and Souji Okita also make appearances.
