Original Gorenger Team Reunites for the First Time in 50 Years at Surprise Anniversary Event

The Super Sentai series celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025 with its latest installment, No.1 Sentai Gozyuger (airing Sundays at 9:30 a.m. on TV Asahi). On the exact anniversary of the franchise’s beginning—April 5, 2025—a special event titled the Himitsu Sentai Gorenger 50th Anniversary Secret Premiere Event was held. For the first time since the original broadcast, all five original cast members of Gorenger came together: Naoya Makoto (76), Hiroshi Miyauchi (77), Jiro Daruma (73), Risa Komaki (74), and Yukio Itō (69).

The event, whose contents were kept entirely under wraps until showtime, welcomed 350 fans selected by lottery from over 2,000 applicants across Japan. Voice actor Tomokazu Seki, known for his love of Super Sentai, served as the MC. The event featured a special screening of the film Himitsu Sentai Gorenger: Bomb Hurricane. Additionally, an action show titled Himitsu Sentai Gorenger Secret Premium Show was performed—marking the first such stage performance at Theater G-Rosso (formerly an outdoor venue) in about 50 years.

This was their first public reunion in the 50 years since the series aired—a long-dreamed-of, “impossible” five-shot moment finally realized.

As the five appeared on stage, the audience was visibly stunned, murmuring, “No way!” Naoya Makoto opened with a heartfelt reflection:
“It’s really been 50 years. Backstage, we reminisced about those early days—how young and driven we were, how determined we were to make this show great. It was the start of Sentai, and even now, remembering it makes my heart burn with passion.”

Hiroshi Miyauchi added, “This is the first time all five of us have gathered together in 50 years. We’ve never all been in the same place at once before. That alone makes this day truly special.”

Despite arriving in a wheelchair, Jiro Daruma showed his spirit, saying, “I just barely made it into this group. This is the condition I’m in now—I can’t even speak without pressing on my throat—but I’m still here.”

Risa Komaki smiled and said, “I’m doing great! I walk my dog for about an hour and a half every day. Seeing the Gorenger members again gives me even more energy.”
Yukio Itō humbly said, “My seniors have already said everything I feel. There’s nothing more I need to add. Please enjoy this moment to the fullest.”

When asked about what it meant to gather on such a historic anniversary, Naoya Makoto responded,
“The fact that the Super Sentai series has continued for 50 years and will go on is something to be proud of—but today, I’m truly happy. My comrades from 50 years ago, including Jiro-chan who’s not in perfect health, still came out. Being able to see everyone again is overwhelming.”

He concluded with deep emotion,
“I’m really glad I did Gorenger. Thank you so much for today.”

The audience erupted in thunderous applause.

It was also announced during the event that the largest exhibition in Super Sentai history, titled Zen Super Sentai Ten (All Super Sentai Exhibition), will open this August at Tokyo Dome City’s Prism Hall.
