On March 27, Nintendo held its Nintendo Direct 2025.3.27 broadcast, revealing new information about upcoming titles, particularly those set for release in 2025 on Nintendo Switch. Among the highlights was the long-awaited return of the Tomodachi Life series with a brand-new entry titled Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, scheduled for release in 2026.

This marks the first new installment in the beloved series in 13 years, following the release of Tomodachi Life: New Life for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013. The original Tomodachi Collection debuted on the Nintendo DS on June 18, 2009.

The Tomodachi Life games allow players to create and register Mii characters—representations of themselves, friends, or acquaintances—and observe their lives on a fictional island. The gameplay is notably freeform: players can choose to help residents increase their happiness, collect rare treasures, or simply enjoy watching the quirky and unpredictable interactions of their Mii characters.

Without fixed goals or a clear ending, the series is known for offering a high degree of freedom and fostering unique personal stories with every playthrough. Fans can expect the upcoming title to build on this charm while introducing new features to enrich the experience in Living the Dream.
