Originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1994 to 1999, the manga has sold over 72 million copies worldwide. The story follows Himura Kenshin, a legendary swordsman once feared as “Battousai the Manslayer” during the final days of the Tokugawa shogunate. After the Meiji Restoration, Kenshin makes a vow never to kill again and uses his reverse-blade sword to help others alongside his companions.

The franchise has since seen numerous adaptations, including a TV anime in 1996, a theatrical film in 1997, three OVA series released after 1999, and a live-action film series starring Takeru Satoh.
