Kindaichi & Miyuki Change Their Nicknames in Front of Their Son – Creator Explains, "They're Childhood Friends, After All"

The latest installment in the hugely popular Kindaichi Case Files series, titled Kindaichi Papa’s Case Files, is currently being serialized on the Comic DAYS app (Kodansha). This new story follows Hajime Kindaichi, who is now married to his childhood friend Miyuki Nanase and has become a father. While raising their son Tsukumo, Hajime runs a newly established detective agency, solving mysteries along the way.

Still "Hajime-chan" & "Miyuki" – But Not in Front of Their Son

Despite being married, Hajime and Miyuki continue to call each other by their childhood nicknames, "Hajime-chan" and "Miyuki." However, the original Kindaichi series creator, Seimaru Amagi, clarified on X (formerly Twitter):

"They're childhood friends, so they wouldn't change how they call each other. But in front of their child, they use 'Papa' and 'Mama' instead."

What is Kindaichi Papa’s Case Files?

The story follows Hajime Kindaichi, once a teenage detective prodigy, who had been living as an ordinary salaryman. However, after the birth of his son Tsukumo, he decides to leave corporate life and establish Kindaichi Hajime Detective Agency.

Though initially taking on small, occasional cases while juggling childcare and household chores, bigger cases inevitably find their way to him—after all, where there’s a great detective, major incidents are bound to occur...

In November 2024, it was officially revealed that Hajime and Miyuki had married and were expecting a child. The editorial team confirmed:
