The highly acclaimed manga The Darwin Incident (ダーウィン事変), winner of the 2022 Manga Taisho Award (Cartoon grand prize), is officially getting an anime adaptation set to air in January 2026. Alongside the announcement, a new teaser PV and second teaser visual have been released.

Story Synopsis

"Why are humans considered special?"

In a rural town in Missouri, Charlie, a 15-year-old human-chimpanzee hybrid ("Humanzee"), possesses intelligence surpassing humans and physical abilities beyond chimpanzees.

Under the guidance of his human adoptive parents, he enrolls in high school for the first time, where he befriends Lucy, a brilliant but socially awkward student.

However, Charlie’s extraordinary origins soon make him a target for ALA, an extremist "Animal Liberation" terrorist organization. As danger closes in, Charlie chooses to fight back to protect his family and Lucy.

Terrorism, discrimination, human rights, and social unrest—in a world of human conflict, a non-human protagonist stands against injustice.
