"Look Back," drawn by Tatsuki Fujimoto, known for "Chainsaw Man," tells the growth story through manga of a fourth grader, Fujino, and a truant classmate, Kyomoto. The narrative unfolds after their four-panel comic is published in the school newspaper, depicting their adolescence through middle school and high school. First featured as a full-length one-shot in "Shonen Jump+" on July 19, 2021, this 143-page story quickly garnered significant attention with comments like "This is genius" and "So shocking I'm at a loss for words," achieving over 2.5 million views on its first day. It ranked first in "Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2022" for males and was nominated for the "Manga Taisho 2022."

The anime adaptation is directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama, who has been involved in major theatrical works such as "Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance," "The Secret World of Arrietty," and "The Wind Rises." Oshiyama also serves as the scriptwriter and character designer, with Studio Dorian handling the animation production.
