Toei Animation's "Magic Candies" Nominated for the 97th Academy Awards Short Film (Animation) Category
For the first time in its history, Toei Animation has received an Academy Award nomination. Their short film Magic Candies (Amedama) has been nominated in the Short Film (Animation) category at the 97th Academy Awards. This marks only the fourth Japanese nomination in this category, following Atama Yama (2002), La Maison en Petits Cubes (2008, winner), and Tsukumo from SHORT PEACE (2014). If it wins, it will be the second Japanese victory in this category.

About Magic Candies
Based on the works of Korean author Baek Heena, recipient of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, Magic Candies is a full-CG animation that adapts her beloved stories Magic Candies and I Am a Dog. The film follows Don Don, a socially awkward boy who discovers magical candies that allow him to hear the thoughts of others. Through this newfound ability, he begins to understand others' emotions and express his own for the first time.
Directed by Daisuke Nishio and produced by Takashi Washio—known for their contributions to the Pretty Cure series—the film captures heartfelt storytelling with innovative visuals.
