The latest box office results for the completely new "Haikyuu!!" movie, "Theatrical Version Haikyuu!! The Battle at the Garbage Dump" (released on February 16), have been announced. In 66 days since its release, the film has attracted 6.83 million viewers and has grossed over 9.7 billion yen, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha.

The movie, which is a sequel to the fourth season of the TV anime "Haikyuu!! TO THE TOP" aired in 2020, has been produced as a two-part theatrical release. The first part covers one of the most popular episodes from the original manga, the third round of the Spring High School Volleyball Tournament, featuring the match between Karasuno High School and Nekoma High School, known as the "Battle at the Garbage Dump." This follows the Inarizaki High School match depicted in the fourth season of "Haikyuu!! TO THE TOP."

"Haikyuu!!" is based on the manga of the same name, which was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) from February 2012 to July 2020. It is a coming-of-age story set around high school volleyball, where protagonist Shoyo Hinata, a member of the volleyball team at Karasuno High School in Miyagi Prefecture, strives to reach the heights of a legendary player known as the "Little Giant." Alongside the genius setter known as the "King of the Court," Tobio Kageyama, and his teammates, Hinata develops through rigorous training and competition. The comic series has surpassed a total of 60 million copies in circulation, and the TV anime had its first season broadcast in 2014, followed by the second in 2015, the third in 2016, and the fourth in 2020.
