Sugimoto (Yamazaki), known as "Immortal Sugimoto" after surviving the Russo-Japanese War, joins forces with Ainu girl Asirpa (Anna Yamada) and escaped prisoner Shiraishi (Yuma Yamoto) from Abashiri Prison to search for the escaped prisoners whose tattoos contain the secret of the hidden gold.
Final EP Story (EP9)
In episode 9, "Mt. Daisetsu," Tanigaki (Ryohei Otani) aims to fulfill his promise to Fuchi to bring Asirpa home. He travels with Chikapashi (Ko Aoki) and Inkarmat (Maryjun Takahashi), but Inkarmat, forced into a scam as a supposed psychic, faces danger. Sugimoto and the others, meanwhile, infiltrate the Asahikawa headquarters to rescue Shiraishi from the 7th Division. The plan involves Suzukawa (Kazuhiko Yamaji) disguising himself as Shirosuke Inudou (Kazuki Kitamura) to meet with the lieutenant colonel. However, Lt. Koito (Taishi Nakagawa), a loyal follower of Lt. Tsurumi (Hiroshi Tamaki), appears, and Sugimoto and his group face their greatest crisis yet!
Keep an eye on Lt. Koito's meticulously designed eyebrows!
Sugimoto heads to the 7th Division's headquarters with Suzukawa disguised as Inudou to rescue Shiraishi. There, Lt. Koito, a Satsuma-born elite officer skilled in Ji-gen Ryu swordsmanship—a style characterized by its single-strike kills—makes his appearance. The group's greatest crisis looms.
Koito is a formidable opponent, but when he becomes overly enthusiastic in his devotion to Tsurumi, he lapses into rapid Satsuma dialect and emits the distinctive "monkey yell" of Ji-gen Ryu. Taishi Nakagawa, who plays Koito, has stated, "I love Otonoshin Koito more than anyone." From his confrontation with the fake Inudou, the thrilling chase scenes, interactions with Tsurumi, and his visual portrayal—including his uniquely designed eyebrows perfected after numerous adjustments—Koito's portrayal stands out.
Filming in the Frigid Mt. Daisetsu: Don't Miss Sugimoto and Asirpa's Iconic Scene
Sugimoto and his group journey into Mt. Daisetsu, and the scenes were filmed on location in the freezing conditions of the actual mountain. As Mt. Daisetsu is a national park, various restrictions were in place during filming. Only after meticulous discussions and preparations could they finally capture the grandeur of nature on camera. The powerful visuals are a must-see. Additionally, an iconic scene involving Sugimoto and Asirpa takes place in the freezing mountain. While they huddle to stave off the cold, Sugimoto recalls the fierce battle at 203 Hill. The delicate depiction of their emotions is also worth noting. Witness the finale of this drama series as the story progresses with the deepening bond between Sugimoto and Asirpa.
Ending Theme for the Final Episode: ACIDMAN's "sonet
ACIDMAN, known for their song "Kagayakeru Mono," the theme for the *Golden Kamuy* movie and ending theme for the first episode of the drama, performs their new song "sonet" for the final episode. The theme of this song is the "butterfly effect," the idea that a small event can ultimately lead to unexpected, large consequences. This ambitious piece represents the world of *Golden Kamuy* in a new way. The lyrics, "Your tears from that day may become rain someday, and surely bloom a flower somewhere," convey the hope that their song may add a small flower to Sugimoto and Asirpa's journey. Don't miss this climactic conclusion with "sonet" setting the scene!
