Based on the award-winning 1995 novel by Ryoko Shikimura, the story is set in the scenic town of Matsuyama, Ehime, and follows a group of high school girls as they pour their hearts into rowing. The novel was previously adapted into a live-action film in 1998 and a drama in 2005. The anime film is directed by Yuhei Sakuragi, known for his work on Kemushi no Boro and Ashita Sekai ga Owaru Toshitemo, with a script by Keiichiro Ochi (The Quintessential Quintuplets) and character designs by Asako Nishida (Love Live!).

One standout aspect of the film is the breathtaking depiction of water, which has garnered praise from early viewers. Akari Kito, who voices Dakko, marveled at the combination of CG and hand-drawn animation in the rowing scenes. Meanwhile, Ikumi Hasegawa, who plays Imocchi, was impressed by the sparkling visuals of the water, which matched the youthful energy of the characters.

Another notable moment is the fireworks scene, which Itou described as "incredibly realistic" thanks to director Sakuragi's attention to detail, including recording actual firework sounds on location to capture the perfect atmosphere.

Sora Amamiya, who voices the reserved protagonist Etsune, reflected on the challenge of conveying emotion with just a simple "Mm"—a key expression for her character. Takahashi praised Amamiya’s performance, calling it "incredibly powerful."

The film’s blend of stunning visuals, realistic sound, and heartfelt performances promises to deliver an unforgettable cinematic experience.
