"Aquarion" Returns with New Series After 10 Years: ‘Aquarion Myth of Emotions’ Set to Air in January, Set on Enoshima Island
The highly anticipated fourth season of the Aquarion anime series, titled Aquarion Myth of Emotions, will premiere in January 2025 on channels like TOKYO MX and TV Aichi. This marks the first new Aquarion installment in a decade, following the 2015 release of Aquarion Logos.
Set against the backdrop of Enoshima Island in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Aquarion Myth of Emotions introduces a fresh cast of characters. The story revolves around three protagonists—Sakko, Remia, and Toshi—who are selected for a special class called "Element" at an elite academy. They are tasked with piloting Vector Machines, combat units powered by emotional energy, to fight off mysterious invaders known as Mythical Beasts. In a nod to the spiritual significance of Enoshima’s "Three Gods," the series features the fusion of three Vector Machines into the three forms of Aquarion, an impressive spectacle.
The key visual for the new series showcases the iconic Enoshima Island with three Vector Machines flying overhead, hinting at a dynamic and visually stunning narrative. As part of the promotion, collaborations with Fujisawa City and Enoshima are also in the works, celebrating the local culture and landmarks.
Director and Staff
The new series will be directed by Kenji Itoso, known for his work on Macross Delta and Fire Force. The original creator, Shoji Kawamori, returns as a supervisor and mecha designer, ensuring that the essence of Aquarion remains intact. Other key staff members include series composition writer Sadayuki Murai, character designer Masashi Kudo, and composers Ko Oomama and Shu Kanematsu. Animation will once again be handled by Satelight, a studio renowned for its visually rich mecha productions.
The Aquarion series first aired in 2005 with Genesis of Aquarion, quickly becoming a fan favorite for its unique mix of mecha action and themes of love and unity. The second season, Aquarion EVOL, and the third, Aquarion Logos, continued to explore these themes, with the memorable line “I want to unite with you” becoming a hallmark of the series. The anime’s influence extended even beyond the anime community when the hit theme song “Sousei no Aquarion” became a sensation, especially with its iconic lyrics “I’ve loved you for 12,000 years.”
Mayor of Fujisawa's Comment
Suzuki Tsuneo, Mayor of Fujisawa, expressed his excitement about Aquarion Myth of Emotions using Enoshima as the primary setting. He highlighted the island’s breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji and the scenic spots like the Enoshima Sea Candle and Iwaya Caves, which attract visitors year-round. Mayor Suzuki hopes the anime will inspire fans and visitors alike to experience both the thrilling world of Aquarion and the beauty of Enoshima.
Director Kenji Itoso’s Comment
"What if a person was born missing a part of their emotions? And what if ‘union’ could fill that missing part, linking it to a myth that changes the fate of the world? Set in Enoshima, where the 'Three Gods' are enshrined, Aquarion Myth of Emotions follows three Vector Machines and three types of Aquarion that come together in ‘Mythical Union.’ This story will resonate with the emotions of many, weaving a new Aquarion saga that bridges 12,000 years of time. Don’t miss it!"
