'Murder Mystery' Gets an Anime Adaptation, Premieres in November with a Zombie Panic Storyline
The popular interactive mystery game Murder Mystery is set to be adapted into a TV anime titled Murder Mystery of the Dead, which will begin airing on ABC TV, TOKYO MX, and other networks from November 13. Alongside this announcement, a promotional video (PV), staff, and cast information were also revealed.
The game has garnered worldwide attention as a follow-up to popular games like "Werewolf Game" and "Escape Room." Players take on the role of characters in a murder mystery scenario, cooperating with each other while sometimes facing off as their characters, investigating incidents, and creating their own stories as they progress. The excitement comes from the personal narrative players build and experience throughout the game.
Currently, Murder Mystery has evolved into various formats, such as board games, digital events, and real-life events, gaining global popularity. Its success has led to adaptations into TV dramas, movies, and games, along with the unique stage-play-style suspense Murder Mystery Theater.
The anime takes place in a world devastated by a zombie pandemic. The protagonist, Mikoto Amano, wakes up in an unfamiliar place with no memory of who she is. She is taken in by six girls: Ranna, Lily, Yu, Fumika, Murumuru, and Rumina.
However, the peaceful days are abruptly shattered when a shocking murder occurs—the man who was rescued alongside Mikoto is killed. The perpetrator is one of them, and who will be next? Set in the Shinjuku Kabukicho Tower, now a sealed-off fortress, a series of mysteries and secrets emerge. As bonds of friendship begin to form, can the girls uncover the truth behind the incident?
