The original animation series Virgin Punk has been confirmed for a theatrical release in early summer 2025.

Yasuomi Umetsu, known as a maverick in the Japanese animation industry, has garnered both domestic and international popularity for his unique worldbuilding as the creator, director, and character designer of titles like A KITE (1998) and MEZZO FORTE (2000). Now, after a decade-long hiatus, he announces his latest directorial project, Virgin Punk.

Joining Umetsu for the production is animation studio Shaft, known for delivering deeply loved and long-lasting works such as Puella Magi Madoka Magica and the Monogatari series.

Virgin Punk is an original animation series conceptualized and written by Yasuomi Umetsu in collaboration with Shaft. Scriptwriter Yuya Takahashi, known for his work on the Kamen Rider series, the LUPIN THE IIIRD films, and the drama Mountain Doctor, is onboard for the project. The story, with its distinct animation style, delves into the struggles of the protagonist, Ubu, a bounty hunter, and the web of desires and chaos woven by the intense characters surrounding her.

The first part of the series, Clockwork Girl, is scheduled to open in early summer 2025 at Cine Libre Ikebukuro and Theater Umeda.
