Aoashi Creator’s New Manga Delayed Six Months, Aoashi Brotherfoot Goes Weekly Through Finale

Aoashi creator Yugo Kobayashi announced on July 16 that the launch of his new manga will be delayed by about six months. The series had been scheduled to run in Weekly Big Comic Spirits. He also revealed that the ongoing spin off Aoashi Brotherfoot will switch to a weekly schedule.

Yugo Kobayashi Announces Delay to New Manga

In a handwritten message posted on the official Aoashi X account, Kobayashi wrote:

“This month marks one year since Aoashi ended. Due to a combination of various circumstances, the launch of my new series planned for Weekly Big Comic Spirits will be pushed back by about six months. I am sorry to everyone who was looking forward to it. But I think I will be able to bring it to you soon.”

He continued:
“There was no way I was going to do nothing during this unexpectedly open stretch. Instead, I have decided to make Aoashi Brotherfoot a weekly series starting in July and see it through to completion.

“I had kept putting off finishing Brotherfoot, even though I knew it would have to end someday. I have already completed enough material for four volumes, and I plan to add another two and finish the series with a total of six volumes. With the World Cup and the anime’s second season both coming this year, I decided this would be a good direction too.”

Aoashi Has More Than 25 Million Copies in Circulation

Aoashi is a soccer manga that was serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits from 2015 to June 2025.

The story follows Ashito Aoi, a young soccer player from Ehime whose talent is discovered before he joins a J.League youth team. Playing in the side back position, he sets his sights on competing on the world stage.

The popular series has been involved in numerous soccer related collaborations, including projects with soccer television programs and the J.League. Set within a J.League youth academy, it portrays high school students striving to become professional players.

The manga has surpassed 25 million copies in circulation. The first season of the television anime aired in 2022, while Season 2 is scheduled to begin airing in October 2026.

The spin off manga Aoashi Brotherfoot follows the comeback story of Shun Aoi, the older brother of Aoashi protagonist Ashito Aoi.
