About Cyborg 009: Nemesis
In Cyborg 009: Nemesis, the cyborg warriors have protected people from various threats to peace for more than half a century since their creation. However, the battles continue.
Now, a group of nine cyborgs called Nemesis appears, believing that 009 and his allies can no longer guide the world toward peace. What ideal does Nemesis, led by the gravity manipulating cyborg Graviton, seek to achieve?
Cyborg 009 follows nine Zero Zero Number cyborgs, including 009, Joe Shimamura, who were surgically modified by the evil organization Black Ghost to become weapons of war. After escaping the organization, they fight to eliminate conflict from the world.
The original manga began in Shonen King on July 19, 1964, and continued in various magazines for more than 30 years. It has since expanded into anime, films, and other media. The work became a lifelong project for Shotaro Ishinomori and marked its 60th anniversary on July 19, 2024.

Yuki Kaji Comment
Q1. What were your impressions after reading the original work and script?
“Through this role, I engaged with the work in earnest and came to understand why 009 has been loved across generations for so long. I also strongly felt the significance of adapting it again in this era. Because AI technology has become increasingly prominent today, the story’s depiction of what it means to be human resonated deeply with me.”
Q2. What do you think of Joe Shimamura as a character?
“His honest and straightforward way of thinking, kindness, and compassion stand out to me. I feel that because he knows weakness and pain, he is able to reach out to others. I love his humanity, including his sense of justice, which can sometimes be almost too strong. I feel that some parts of him are close to myself, while at the same time, he is someone I admire and aspire to be like.”
Q3. A message for fans
“I feel humbled to be involved as the voice of Joe Shimamura in such an important work at the milestone of its 60th anniversary, but more than anything, I am happy and honored. I hope both longtime fans of the series and those encountering 009 for the first time through this work will enjoy it.”
