Patlabor EZY File 2 Reveals New Key Visual and Trailer Showcasing Towa and Kippei’s Dynamic Partnership

The upcoming anime film Patlabor EZY File 2 will open in theaters across Japan on August 14, with a new key visual and full trailer released on the 15th. The latest footage highlights the refreshing chemistry between protagonist duo Towa and Kippei while also unveiling details about five new characters surrounding Special Vehicles Section 2.

Patlabor Returns With a New Three Part Anime Project

Patlabor EZY is the newest animated installment in the long running Mobile Police Patlabor franchise. Following the initial production announcement in 2017, a pilot film was released in 2022. In September 2024, the staff officially launched the “2026 Project,” marking the beginning of the franchise’s full scale revival.

The new anime is structured as a three part theatrical series. File 1 began screening in theaters on the 15th.

Set in Japan during the 2030s, the story takes place in a society where AI driven automation has become widespread. The once cutting edge “Labor” machines are now deeply integrated into social infrastructure. At the same time, standalone manned Labors have become outdated and are gradually being replaced by autonomous robots.

Even in this changing era, Special Vehicles Section 2 continues its mission to protect people and the city. Equipped with the upgraded AV 98Plus Ingram, a modified version of the classic Type 98 AV Ingram, the team faces a new generation of technology based crimes.

New Key Visual Highlights Towa and Kippei

The newly released key visual for File 2 depicts Towa and Kippei standing by the seaside with their respective beloved vehicles behind them. Their relaxed expressions and confident atmosphere reflect the trust they have built through countless incidents together, emphasizing the strong bond between the two partners.

Trailer Teases Mystery Girl and New Incidents

The full trailer begins with a missing bullet case before escalating into a series of unexpected events, including the appearance of a mysterious young girl and sudden landslides. The preview also features fast paced banter and chaotic moments typical of Special Vehicles Section 2, capturing the signature comedic energy long associated with the Patlabor series.

In addition, information about five new characters has been revealed. Alongside Shiba Shigeo, whose existence was previously teased during the premiere event, several colorful new faces will appear, including maintenance crew members, the leader of the First Platoon, and division supervisors supporting Special Vehicles Section 2.

Attention is also building around how these newly introduced characters, portrayed by a talented cast, will interact with Towa, Kippei, and the rest of the team.

Shigeo Shiba
CV: Shigeru Chiba

A part time advisor for the Second Platoon maintenance crew. As a former apprentice of the original maintenance chief, he serves as a living encyclopedia of Special Vehicles Section 2 history. Cheerful and playful by nature, he enjoys living freely while pursuing his many hobbies.

Kurumi Terada
CV: Mariya Ise

A maintenance staff member assigned to the Second Platoon. She is an avid gamer with an unmatched passion for video games. Known for her cynical remarks and detached perspective on society, she also acts as the trusted right hand of maintenance chief Saito.

Yoichi Saito
CV: Hiroki Maeda

The head of the maintenance crew. Gentle and broad minded, he is well respected by both the maintenance staff and members of Special Vehicles Section 2. While he deeply admires advisor Shigeo Shiba, he also harbors a certain sense of awe toward him.

Kanji Kunikida
CV: Hochu Otsuka

The commander of the First Platoon. A disciplined and impeccably proper police officer who carefully monitors the work of his subordinates. His formal manner of speaking gives a strict impression, though he describes himself as fundamentally kind hearted.
