“Reality Has Finally Caught Up With the Story”

According to the official website’s preview for the next issue, the original serialization from 1988 to 1994 depicted Tokyo in the “near future” between 1998 and 2002. Now, in 2026, the site notes that reality has finally caught up with the timeline envisioned in the story.

The announcement states:

“Back then, the setting was near future Tokyo. Now that we have passed that once fictional era, reality has caught up with the story in 2026. Where are ‘they’ now?”

It also teases the long awaited return with the phrase:

“32 years since the ending, they finally move again.”

The new one shot is titled Mobile Police Patlabor 2026. The issue will also include a special bonus sticker featuring manga panels from the series.
