The series had originally been announced to start in the issue released on August 5. However, according to the magazine’s editorial department, Mashima, who is known for his speed, progressed with the manuscript at a pace far beyond expectations. To deliver the work to readers as soon as possible, the editorial team made the unusual decision to move the launch forward by one week from the originally announced date.

A New Story Celebrating the Series’ 20th Anniversary

This short term serialization commemorates the 20th anniversary of FAIRY TAIL and will tell a new story featuring Natsu and the other main characters.

FAIRY TAIL has produced many spin off works. In FAIRY TAIL 100 Years Quest, Mashima handles the storyboard script while Atsuo Ueda provides the artwork. This new project, however, is drawn by Mashima himself. It marks the first new FAIRY TAIL serialization drawn by Mashima in nine years since the original series ended in 2017.

FAIRY TAIL 20th

When the new serialization was announced in April, it was scheduled to begin in the combined issue 36 and 37 of Weekly Shonen Magazine, released on August 5. Explaining the earlier launch, the editorial department stated that the decision was made due to scheduling needs for the magazine itself and because Mashima had advanced the manuscript at a speed far beyond the editorial team’s expectations. The team said it wanted to deliver the series to readers as quickly as possible and asked fans to look forward to FAIRY TAIL drawn by Hiro Mashima.

FAIRY TAIL is a popular manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine from 2006 to 2017. The story follows Lucy, a girl aspiring to become a full fledged wizard, and Natsu, a fire wielding wizard, after they meet. It depicts the adventures of the wizard guild Fairy Tail, known in Japanese as “Yosei no Shippo,” where many unique wizards gather.

The manga has surpassed 72 million copies in cumulative circulation and has also been adapted into a television anime and games.
