FAIRY TAIL Returns with a New Story for Its 20th Anniversary
It has been officially announced that a new FAIRY TAIL manga by Hiro Mashima will begin as a short term serialization in Weekly Shonen Magazine issue 36 and 37, released on August 5. This marks the first new FAIRY TAIL series since the original concluded in 2017, making it a return after nine years.
The new serialization commemorates the 20th anniversary of FAIRY TAIL. The story will once again follow protagonist Natsu and his companions as they embark on a brand new adventure. A special promotional video has also been released alongside the announcement.
Mashima commented on the project, expressing gratitude to fans. He stated that being able to celebrate a series that ended years ago is entirely thanks to the continued support from readers. He also revealed that numerous new goods and events are being prepared from this year into next year, inviting fans to celebrate the 20th anniversary together with enthusiasm.

Nationwide Events and Exhibitions Announced

As part of the anniversary celebrations, additional projects have been revealed. Mashima will hold autograph sessions across five major cities in Japan including Hokkaido, Tokyo, Aichi, Osaka, and Fukuoka.
In addition, the FAIRY TAIL 20th Anniversary Special Art Exhibition is currently being held in major cities nationwide. Newly created artwork for the event is on display and available for purchase.
About FAIRY TAIL and Its Legacy
FAIRY TAIL was originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine from 2006 to 2017. The story follows Lucy, a young girl aspiring to become a full fledged mage, and Natsu, a fire wielding mage, as they meet and join the magical guild Fairy Tail, home to many unique wizards.
The manga has surpassed 72 million copies in circulation worldwide. It has also been adapted into three TV anime series in 2009, 2014, and 2018, along with various game adaptations.
Ongoing Sequel FAIRY TAIL 100 YEARS QUEST
In addition to the new short series, the official sequel FAIRY TAIL 100 YEARS QUEST has been serialized since July 2018. The story continues directly from chapter 545 of the original manga, depicting further adventures of the Fairy Tail guild. The sequel is based on Mashima’s original story with art by Atsuo Ueda.
