It has been officially announced that the new anime series THE ONE PIECE will be distributed worldwide on Netflix starting in February 2027. Season 1 will adapt approximately 50 chapters of the original manga, depicting the story up to Luffy’s encounter with Sanji, the sous chef of the sea restaurant Baratie. The season will consist of seven episodes released simultaneously, with a total runtime of around 300 minutes.

THE ONE PIECE is a complete reanimation of the story beginning from Chapter 1 of the original manga, the East Blue arc, produced with entirely new visuals. Production has shifted from Toei Animation, which handles the current TV anime, to WIT STUDIO, forming a new creative team. Separate from the long running TV anime series that has continued for over 25 years, the project aims to pursue modern visual expression while presenting Luffy’s adventure in a way that feels both nostalgic and new.
Newly released concept art depicts a scene from Foosha Village, where protagonist Monkey D Luffy spent his childhood. The image shows Luffy smiling innocently inside PARTYS BAR, surrounded by members of the Red Hair Pirates, including their captain Shanks, vice captain Benn Beckman, and the bar’s owner Makino, rendered with an emotional and warm visual touch.
The production committee commented on the project, stating that it is an initiative to re depict the ONE PIECE anime from the East Blue arc using modern visual techniques. They emphasized their intention to explore expressions that are only possible today, separate from the long running TV series, and to present Luffy’s adventure in a way that feels both nostalgic and fresh.
They also noted that while the release is still some time away and the project will take a long time to complete, the team will work together with WIT STUDIO and Netflix as new partners to deliver the series not only to fans around the world but also to future generations who will encounter ONE PIECE for the first time.
ONE PIECE, originally created by Eiichiro Oda, began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump on July 22, 1997. The story follows Monkey D Luffy, who gains rubber like abilities after eating the Gum Gum Fruit, as he forms the Straw Hat Pirates and sets out on a grand adventure in search of the legendary treasure known as One Piece, left behind by the Pirate King Gol D Roger.
The manga has surpassed 600 million copies in circulation worldwide. The TV anime has been airing since 1999, while the 2022 theatrical film ONE PIECE FILM RED exceeded 20.34 billion yen at the Japanese box office, becoming a major cultural phenomenon. The TV anime is currently airing the Elbaf arc.
