Sword Art Online New Original Anime Movie in Production, New Details to Be Revealed This July

It has been announced that a completely new original theatrical anime film for Sword Art Online is currently in development. Additional details about the project are scheduled to be unveiled in July.

The production of this original film was first revealed in 2022. This time, a new update was teased during the final segment of “Yuna First Live,” an in story concert featured in Sword Art Online The Movie Ordinal Scale, which premiered in theaters on February 18, 2017. During the event, it was announced that further information would be shared in July.

The official X account also posted a message stating that the Sword Art Online original theatrical film is currently in production and asked fans to wait for upcoming updates.

About the Sword Art Online Series

The Sword Art Online series is based on the novels written by Reki Kawahara. The story follows protagonist Kirito as he becomes involved in various incidents surrounding online games set in a near future where virtual reality is made possible through advanced connection devices.

The series has surpassed 30 million copies in circulation worldwide. The TV anime began airing in 2012 and has continued through three seasons, along with multiple theatrical releases.

As a result, the committee concluded:

“All songs previously performed by Ms. Kanda will remain unchanged. However, for any future appearances of Yuna in new stories, her voice will be performed by a new cast member.”

The successor has been officially announced as Risae Matsuda (松田利冴), who will take over the voice role for Yuna in future productions.
