Stranger Things Animated Series Season 2 Confirmed for Fall 2026 Release on Netflix

Netflix has officially confirmed that Season 2 of the animated series Stranger Things: Tales from '85 will be released worldwide in Fall 2026. The series, which currently has Season 1 streaming, has drawn attention as a new storyline focusing on the “missing time” not depicted in the live action drama.

Story Set Between Seasons 2 and 3

The story takes place in Hawkins during the winter of 1985, positioned between Seasons 2 and 3 of the original drama. Against a backdrop of a snow covered town, familiar characters such as Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, Max, and Eleven return to face a new threat.

Season 1 carried forward the signature blend of 1980s pop culture and thriller elements that define Stranger Things, while introducing original characters and new supernatural entities. A mysterious lifeform that evolves into an immortal being by changing hosts once again casts a shadow over Hawkins. As strange incidents unfold, the boys pursue the truth and uncover conspiracies lurking within the Upside Down.

New Character and Expanding Story

A new character named Nikki, a transfer student skilled in science and invention, joins the group. Their adventure grows in scale and moves toward increasingly unpredictable developments. Newly released still images show Mike and his friends discovering an overturned truck in a snowy forest, hinting at the ominous return of a monster.

Creators Highlight Animation’s Potential

The Duffer Brothers, creators of the series and executive producers of this project, commented, “Animation has no limits. Showrunner Eric and the team had complete creative freedom. It will definitely surprise audiences.” They expressed confidence that animation allows the story of the alternate world to expand even further.

Additional Project “The Boroughs” Also Announced

In addition, the Duffer Brothers are working on a new project titled The Boroughs, featuring senior citizens as protagonists. The series depicts elderly characters confronting mysterious phenomena, presenting another take on an alternate world drama. It is scheduled for release on May 21.
