The series will premiere exclusively on Disney Plus with a simultaneous release in Japan and the United States on April 6. Two episodes will be released weekly, for a total of ten episodes. Alongside the announcement, a powerful teaser trailer packed with intense action was released worldwide, showcasing Maul wielding his signature double bladed red lightsaber in relentless combat.

About Darth Maul

Darth Maul first appeared in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Episode I as a fearsome Sith apprentice trained by the evil Emperor Palpatine, also known as Darth Sidious. His overwhelming combat skills and mastery of the Force left a lasting impression on audiences around the world.

In the film’s climactic battle, Maul engaged in a fierce lightsaber duel against Jedi Masters Qui Gon Jinn and Obi Wan Kenobi. Although Maul succeeded in killing Qui Gon, he was ultimately cut in half by Obi Wan and believed to have died.

However, the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars later revealed that Maul survived through sheer Force power, reconstructing his body and returning in an unexpected resurrection fueled by revenge against Obi Wan Kenobi. He later shocked fans once again with his surprise appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story as the leader of the underworld crime syndicate Crimson Dawn.

A Dark Era Begins

Maul: Shadow Lord is set immediately after The Clone Wars, during a dark era following the collapse of the Jedi Order and the rise of the Galactic Empire. Abandoned by Darth Sidious, Maul plots revenge against the Empire while attempting to build a new criminal organization on a planet beyond Imperial control.

During this time, he encounters a young Jedi Padawan who has lost faith in the galaxy. Seeing an opportunity, Maul seeks to recruit the Padawan as his own apprentice, setting the stage for a dangerous and emotionally charged story.

The newly released teaser features Maul cutting down enemies without mercy amid heavy blaster fire, throwing his lightsaber like a boomerang to wipe out groups of stormtroopers in rapid succession. The footage highlights the series’ hard edged and dark tone.

Scenes in which Maul declares that the Empire will eventually fall, contrasted with warnings that the Emperor desires his death, suggest a story filled with danger, betrayal, and escalating tension.

Long regarded as one of the most mysterious and visually striking characters in Star Wars, Darth Maul has maintained immense popularity for his raw power and striking design. This series explores his untold story following his defeat by Obi Wan, as he moves in the shadows to plunge the galaxy into darkness once more.

Sam Witwer, who has voiced Maul since The Clone Wars, confirmed, “Of course, Maul is still a villain in this series.” As Maul continues his path of murder, betrayal, revenge, and hatred, global attention is focused on this new chapter of his dark saga.
