Medalist Theatrical Film Announced for 2027 Release, Continuing the Story After TV Anime Season 2
The theatrical anime film adaptation of Medalist (JP: メダリスト) has been officially announced. The upcoming movie will depict the story that follows the events of the TV anime Season 2, which begins airing on January 24, and is scheduled for a theatrical release in 2027. Alongside the announcement, a new key visual for Season 2 of the TV anime has also been unveiled.

Medalist is based on the manga by Tsurumai Ikada, which has been serialized in Afternoon magazine since 2020. The series has earned widespread acclaim, including first place in the Comics category at the Next Manga Awards 2022, the 68th Shogakukan Manga Award (2022) in the General category, and the Magademy Awards 2022 Best Leading Actress award for its protagonist, Inori Yuitsuka. Notably, this title marks the author’s debut work and has already garnered numerous prestigious honors.

The TV anime Season 1 aired from January to March 2025. Season 2 will premiere on January 24 and will be broadcast nationwide on TV Asahi’s NUMAnimation programming block across 24 affiliated stations, as well as on additional platforms.

The newly released key visual for Season 2 features Inori Yuitsuka and Tsukasa Akeuraji, along with their rivals Hikaru Kamisaki and Jun Yodaka, set against the backdrop of a beautiful frozen lake. The visual captures the symbolic essence of the upcoming season.

In addition, the synopsis, preview images, and trailer for score14, titled “Athlete’s Oath,” which serves as the first episode of Season 2, have been released. The story follows the Chubu Block Tournament, where competitors vie for a spot in the All Japan Novice Championships. Overwhelmed with excitement at being in a place she has long admired, Inori Yuitsuka cheerfully greets her fellow Novice A rivals. The atmosphere shifts with the arrival of elite skaters selected by the federation.
To commemorate the start of Season 2’s broadcast, a special promotional event has also been announced. On January 24, a distribution event will be held at Animate Ikebukuro Main Store in Tokyo, where fans can receive a special hand warmer featuring the newly revealed Season 2 key visual.
