SEGA co founder David Rosen has passed away at the age of 95, the company announced on its official X account on January 7. The news marks the loss of a key figure widely regarded as a pioneer of the video game industry.

In its post on X, SEGA expressed its condolences, stating that it had received news of the passing of David Rosen and extended its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and all those connected to him.

The statement continued by honoring Rosen as one of SEGA’s founders and describing him as a true pioneer in the video game industry who left behind remarkable achievements. SEGA added that all employees are deeply grateful for his contributions and sincerely pray for his peaceful rest.


David Rosen’s Role in the Birth of SEGA

David Rosen founded Rosen Enterprises in 1954. He began importing coin operated amusement machines that were popular in the United States and went on to operate amusement facilities in Japan.

In 1965, Rosen Enterprises merged with Nihon Goraku Bussan, the company that would later become the foundation of SEGA. Following the merger, the company was renamed Sega Enterprises, and Rosen assumed the role of chairman, helping to shape the early direction of what would grow into one of the world’s most influential game companies.
