Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina will return with a brand new theatrical anime film, marking its first new animated project in five years. The announcement was made during the special program GA FES 2026 GA 20TH ANNIVERSARY, which was streamed on the Japanese platform ABEMA on the 4th.

The series celebrated the fifth anniversary of its television anime on October 2, 2025, five years after its original broadcast in 2020. In addition, 2026 marks the tenth anniversary of the original novel. Responding to continued fan support, the production of a new theatrical anime film has now been officially decided.

Alongside the announcement, a teaser video featuring newly recorded voice lines by Kaede Hondo, who voices Elaina, was released. What kind of story Elaina, the Ashen Witch, will weave on the big screen remains to be revealed, with further details to be announced at a later date.

About Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina

Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina is based on the novel of the same name, which was self published in 2014 by Jogi Shiraishi. Set in a medieval inspired world where magic exists, the story follows Elaina, a traveling witch, as she journeys across various lands and encounters different people and cultures. The television anime aired from October to December 2020.

To everyone who has asked me via the email address or replies listed on my X account, asking when the sequel would happen. Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina is getting a continuation. There is no longer any need to ask. And it is a movie. A movie.

I am truly happy that the film adaptation, which has been steadily moving forward behind the scenes together with many adults involved, can finally be delivered to everyone in this way.

We were only able to come this far thanks to the cooperation of so many people. There are simply too many people I want to thank, to the point that I no longer know which direction I should face when I sleep. In any case, both as the author and as one of the fans of the Wandering Witch anime, I am very much looking forward to it.
