Kenshi Yonezu Performs “IRIS OUT” Live for the First Time in Chainsaw Man Inspired Stage Production

Kenshi Yonezu made his first ever live performance of “IRIS OUT” at the 76th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen, Japan’s iconic year end music program, held on December 31 at NHK Hall in Shibuya, Tokyo. Appearing on the program for the third time, Yonezu closed out the year with a highly anticipated stage inspired by Chainsaw Man.

“IRIS OUT” serves as the theme song for the theatrical anime film Chainsaw Man The Movie Reze Arc. Riding on the film’s strong box office performance, the song has gained widespread acclaim both in Japan and internationally, making its first live performance a major highlight of the night.

The stage opened with a dramatic, story driven performance. Yonezu began singing from inside a phone booth reminiscent of Denji’s fateful encounter with Reze in the film. From the receiver, the song “JANE DOE,” a collaboration with Hikaru Utada and the ending theme of Chainsaw Man The Movie Reze Arc, played briefly before transitioning into the main performance as dancers joined him on stage.

The performance took place on the recently closed KK Line expressway in Tokyo, transformed into a striking visual that evoked the chaos left behind by the Bomb Devil rampaging through the streets in the film.

During the chorus, Yonezu flashed a peace sign to the audience, while a playful演出 featured him riding a shark shaped vehicle reminiscent of Beam. The stage was further energized by a powerful dance break from the female dance unit HANA. The performance concluded with fireworks symbolizing the explosive power of the Bomb Devil, delivering a visually rich and unforgettable finale.
