The newly unveiled key visual centers on Koichi, who struggles and grows as a designer, and features Ellen, a prodigiously talented painter. Surrounding them are Sayuri Kato, who has known both since their youth, charismatic model Akari Kishi, and Yusuke Kamiya, a senior figure in the advertising industry and one of Koichi’s professional mentors. The illustration captures the anticipation of how these characters’ lives and ambitions will intersect.

Sayuri Kato, Ellen’s childhood friend and Koichi’s classmate, is voiced by Yui Ishikawa, known for her role as Violet Evergarden in Violet Evergarden. Akari Kishi, a self centered yet extraordinarily gifted fashion model, is portrayed by Akira Sekine, who previously voiced Sora Harewataru and Cure Sky in Soaring Sky Precure.
At Meguro Advertising, where Koichi works, Kazuyuki Okitsu voices Yusuke Kamiya, a creative director celebrated for his exceptional sense and charisma. Yurina Mitsuhashi, Koichi’s junior and a copywriter, is played by Yurina Amami, known for her role as Mister C B in Umamusume Pretty Derby. Completing the lineup, Koji Yusa portrays Hajime Yanagi, a highly capable but domineering creative director, marking yet another sharp eyed character in Yusa’s career.
Prior to the April television debut, the anime will hold an early screening at theaters across Japan. From March 27, audiences will have a rare opportunity to watch episodes one through three on the big screen during a limited one week run.
About Eren the Southpaw
Eren the Southpaw is a coming of age ensemble drama that focuses on Koichi Asakura, who dreams of becoming someone special despite grappling with the limits of his own talent, and Ellen Yamagishi, a genius artist burdened by loneliness and inner conflict. The series tagline is “For everyone who could not become a genius.”
After a fateful meeting in high school, the two pursue separate paths, with Koichi working as a designer at a major advertising agency and Ellen establishing herself as a painter based in New York. Through their contrasting experiences as an ordinary talent and a true prodigy, the story depicts their defeats, frustrations, and eventual journey toward discovering their true selves.
The original work was serialized by creator Kappy (or Kappi) on cakes starting in March 2016. A remake version illustrated by nifuni began serialization on the manga app Shonen Jump Plus in October 2017. The series was adapted into a live action drama in 2019 starring Futa Kamio and Elaiza Ikeda, and the manga has surpassed 3.9 million copies in circulation.
