The television anime adaptation of Snowball Earth is set to air on the Nippon TV network starting April 2026. The announcement arrived alongside the series’ first teaser PV using animated footage and a newly unveiled teaser visual. In addition, four cast members including the protagonist’s voice actor Takuto Yoshinaga were revealed, together with new staff details.

Based on the manga by Yuhiiro Tsujitsugu, currently serialized in Monthly Spirits (Shogakukan), the series began in March 2021. As of the release of volume ten on the twenty sixth, the manga has surpassed a cumulative 700 thousand copies in print.

Takuto Yoshinaga plays the protagonist Tetsuo Yabusame, an extremely shy boy who is nevertheless humanity’s chosen “savior”. Daisuke Hirakawa voices Yukio, Tetsuo’s gentle and dependable robot companion. Ami Koshimizu joins as Ao Nogi, a curious young woman who controls scorching heat beasts, and Konomi Tamura plays Hagane Takimura, a highly skilled and research driven engineer.

The teaser visual depicts Tetsuo standing tall at the center, with his giant robot partner Yukio looming behind him in a commanding pose. The youthful “savior” and his steadfast companion evoke the promise of an expansive narrative. How will a boy who once had “zero friends” weave the path of this story?

The teaser PV, using animated footage for the first time, follows shy Tetsuo and his caring robot friend Yukio as they confront a final space battle that will determine humanity’s fate. After a fierce clash with a galactic monster, Tetsuo returns to Earth. However, when he awakens from cold sleep, he is confronted with a transformed planet covered entirely in snow and ice.

Why did Earth freeze? Why is a galactic monster now on Earth despite once existing only in space? Holding these deepening mysteries close, Tetsuo steps onto the frozen world and a new chapter begins.

The PV also introduces Tetsuo and Yukio’s new allies, Ao Nogi and Hagane Takimura. How these companions join the story and what their encounters will bring heighten anticipation. Large scale battle sequences featuring the giant robot Yukio and galactic monsters add to the excitement.

Staff lineup

The production team includes animator Se Jun KIM, renowned for his contributions to numerous robot anime and his expertise in mechanical design. His notable works include serving as mechanical animation director on Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time (2021) and animation mechanical design on Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX. Monster design is led by Ryuta Yanagi, known for his dynamic and powerful creature illustrations including his work on Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale.

Music is composed by Tatsuya Kato, Hiroaki Tsutsumi, and YUKI KANESAKA, a team previously responsible for the soundtrack of the Dr. STONE television anime. This accomplished group of creators brings the world of Snowball Earth to life through its score, alongside many other highly skilled staff members.

■Takuto Yoshinaga (as Tetsuo Yabusame)
Tetsuo’s courage to throw himself into danger for others, and his earnest struggle to overcome his difficulties with communication, deeply moved me and made me completely fall for him. I absolutely wanted to play Tetsuo and stay by Yukio’s side. When I heard the results of the audition, I couldn’t help but shout. I will live in this frozen world with everything I have so the charm of this work reaches everyone.

Character Introduction
A young pilot who fights galactic monsters alongside his robot partner Yukio. He belongs to the anti monster force E RDE and was hailed as Earth’s “savior.” Although extremely shy and having no friends besides Yukio, his skills are undeniable.

■Daisuke Hirakawa (as Yukio)
I am Daisuke Hirakawa, and I will be voicing Yukio. Robots, monsters, and their spectacular battles are enough to make anyone’s heart race, but so is the human drama that unfolds as people struggle to survive, sometimes even involving humans and robots together. I hope to pour all my passion into this role so that I can stand up to both the strengths of the original manga and the power of the animation.

Character Introduction
Tetsuo’s robot partner who battles galactic monsters. He has a gentle personality and looks after Tetsuo, who struggles with communication. His formal name is the Earth Defense Great Machine Star “Snowman.”

■Ami Koshimizu (as Ao Nogi)
I am honored to portray Ao, a woman who carries many burdens yet never loses her smile. Every character has their own feelings to bear, their resilience in the face of any environment, and moments of vulnerability that are beautifully depicted. This work reminded me of what it means to live. Together with the cast, I hope to survive in this world with all my strength.

Character Introduction
A curious monster tamer living in the Mishima Mall. She protects the village by commanding her scorching heat beast, known as “the Earth of Humanity.” She also serves as the mall’s accounting manager, though she often slips away from work and gets scolded.

■Konomi Tamura (as Hagane Takimura)
I am Konomi Tamura, playing Hagane Takimura in Snowball Earth. It was a fresh and valuable experience to take part in a production where we were able to read through the script together before recording and receive advice from veteran actors. The battles against the galactic monsters are intensely thrilling from moment to moment. Please allow yourself to be shaken between joy and despair.

Character Introduction
The eldest daughter of the Takimura family living in Mishima Mall. She is a dedicated researcher, inheriting her mother’s passion, and possesses the technical skill to create weapons for close combat against monsters. Her cheerful nature helped her easily bond with the shy Tetsuo.
