Witch Hat Atelier Anime Premieres April 2026 with First Teaser PV Featuring Rena Motomura and Natsuki Hanae

The television anime Witch Hat Atelier (JP: とんがり帽子のアトリエ) will premiere in April 2026, and the newly released teaser PV spotlights the series’ core concept of magic drawn through spell glyphs. The main cast has also been revealed, with Rena Motomura starring as Coco and Natsuki Hanae portraying Qifre.

Based on Kamome Shirahama’s acclaimed manga, the story follows Coco, a young girl who has always admired magic. One day, she secretly witnesses the magician Qifre casting a spell and discovers a world-shaking truth. In this world, anyone can use magic simply by drawing specific glyphs with special tools, a fact deliberately hidden by magicians as an “absolute secret.”

Behind its majestic and fantastical world lies a suppressed history of magic that adults refuse to speak of. Born as an outsider “who does not know,” Coco becomes Qifre’s apprentice. As she studies magic alongside the other members of the atelier, she steps deeper into the enigmatic world of sorcery while experiencing both despair and hope. This is the story of children who reach for light from within the shadows.

Cast and Staff Comments

Rena Motomura (Coco)
“I am honored to play Coco. With every turn of the page, memories of childhood and the pure feeling of ‘longing’ came back to me. I felt deeply connected to Coco, and when I learned I had been chosen for the role, tears came before my voice did. Shirahama-sensei’s magical world has become an extraordinary anime. I poured all my heart into portraying Coco, and I hope it reaches as many people as possible.”

Natsuki Hanae (Qifre)
“It is an honor to portray Qifre, a key character with gentle eyes tinged with sorrow and a mysterious aura. Motomura, my junior at the agency, plays Coco, and I believe our mentor-student dynamic naturally came through in the studio. Shirahama-sensei’s fantastical world has been beautifully realized through Director Watanabe’s vision. Please look forward to the broadcast.”

Series Composer Hiroshi Seko
“To me, this manga felt like a dish crafted from fresh, richly flavorful ingredients with meticulous technique. It is not simply gentle; at times it brings spice, bitterness, astringency, or sweet tang, and sometimes even a daring, unexpected course. I believe this complex 'quality' is what only this work can achieve.”
