The upcoming anime adaptation Death Stranding Isolations received significant attention during the Disney Plus Original Preview 2025 event held on November 13 at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. The preview showcased new original titles from Japan and South Korea, drawing media from the Asia Pacific region, the United States, and Latin America.

A highlight among the Japan-originated announcements was the reveal of the new animation series overseen by world-renowned game creator Hideo Kojima. When Kojima took the stage, the hall erupted in applause, underscoring the exceptionally high expectations for the project.

The series is an entirely new story inspired by the world of the 2019 video game Death Stranding. It is scheduled for exclusive streaming on Disney + (Star) in 2027. The animation is produced by E and H production, with direction by Takayuki Sano of the same studio.

Kojima commented that although the IP originated as a game, this anime will allow audiences unfamiliar with the game to discover the world of Death Stranding. He emphasized that the aim is to deliver a version of Death Stranding that can only be expressed through hand-drawn animation.

Director Sano added that the series will be a fully original work grounded in the game’s lore and created entirely through hand-drawn 2D animation. He stated that the team is bringing together top creators from Japan as well as talent from around the world, with the goal of evolving Japanese animation into what he calls “globanimation,” expanding its expressive possibilities.

It was also revealed that character design is handled by Ilya Kuvshinov, known for his work on Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045. The announcement drew strong reactions from the audience.

Although the team avoided stating a detailed release window, Kojima said that the project is still in the announcement phase, but he believes it is shaping up extremely well.

As an ambitious project that bridges gaming, anime, and global streaming platforms, the new anime continues to generate anticipation. Additional updates are expected in the coming months.

The preview also featured new updates on other Japan-originated titles, including Disney Twisted Wonderland The Animation, Tokyo Revengers Three Deities Arc, Wandance, the second part of Cat’s Eye, and Season Two of Medalist.
