The TV anime The Cat and The Dragon will be produced by OLM and is set to premiere in July 2026. Alongside the announcement, a teaser visual and teaser PV were unveiled, confirming that voice actor Takahito Koyasu will play the role of the “Cat Dragon.” His voice was previously heard in the “Anime Adaptation Announcement PV,” though the cast name had remained undisclosed until now.

Based on the novel and manga series published by Takarajimasha, The Cat and The Dragon (original work by Amara, character design by Mai Okuma, manga by Izumi Sasaki) has surpassed 1.2 million copies in circulation. The story follows a dragon raised by cats, weaving a mysterious and heartwarming tale of connection between dragons, cats, and humans. The series first gained attention on the novel submission site Shosetsuka ni Naro, where it achieved an extraordinary feat by ranking first in the daily rankings despite being a short story.

The newly revealed teaser visual marks the first anime illustration for the series. Set deep within the forest where cats dwell, it depicts the “Cat Dragon” in feline form by a lakeside, with its true dragon reflection appearing in the water. Surrounding it are shimmering blue spirits, creating a mystical and enchanting fantasy scene.

The teaser PV features anime footage for the first time, narrated by the Cat Dragon itself. The narration, recorded exclusively for the video, introduces the Cat Dragon’s origins while showcasing the forest’s diverse feline inhabitants and various human characters. It also confirms that Takehito Koyasu will voice the protagonist. In the earlier “Anime Adaptation Announcement PV” released on February 22, fans could hear the Cat Dragon speaking in “cat language,” though the actor’s name was not revealed at the time.

Koyasu shared his impressions of the role:
“The Cat Dragon I play starts out dignified and strict, but gradually changes through various encounters. Frankly speaking, he’s adorable (laughs).”

The anime will be produced by OLM, with Jin-Koo Oh directing, Mitsutaka Hirota handling series composition, Rie Nishino and Chiaki Kurakazu designing the characters, Takahiro Obata composing the music, and Noriyoshi Konuma serving as sound director.
