Naoya Zenin via Manga Jujutsu Kaisen vol.17 cover
In Tokyo, Naoya faces off against Choso and Yuji, but Yuta Okkotsu also arrives with orders to execute Yuji. They divide their opponents: Yuta fights Yuji, while Naoya battles Choso. Ultimately, Naoya is defeated by Choso, ending his plan prematurely.
Later, Naoya returns to the Zen’in estate and engages in a one-on-one battle with the awakened Maki Zen’in. However, Maki quickly sees through the mechanics of his Projection Sorcery and defeats him with a direct punch to the face. Gravely injured, Naoya retreats, consumed by hatred toward Maki, only to be fatally stabbed by Maki’s mother, who harbored a long-standing grudge against him.
■Culling Game Arc
After being killed by an attack that lacked cursed energy, Naoya’s spirit transformed into a cursed spirit upon death, becoming the first former jujutsu sorcerer in the series to do so. (In Chapter 33 of the manga, it is explained that sorcerers are typically killed using cursed techniques to prevent this transformation.)
Naoya’s cursed form took on a grotesque, caterpillar-like appearance. During the Culling Game, he appeared inside the Sakurajima Colony, where Maki Zen’in and Noritoshi Kamo were eliminating dangerous sorcerers and curses. Still retaining his self-awareness as Naoya, his obsession with Maki had only intensified.
Not only did he retain his original Projection Sorcery, but he also achieved a Domain Expansion called “Time Cell Moon Palace” (Jihou Gekkyuuden). However, he was ultimately exorcised by Maki, who could not be detected by his Domain’s perception.
