Sanda Episode 1 Story & Preview Cuts Released: An Unconventional Santa Claus Hero Action

The story and preview images for Episode 1 of the TV anime Sanda (JP: サンダ), based on the manga by Paru Itagaki (BEASTARS) and produced by Science SARU, have been revealed. This episode will air on Saturday, October 4 at 1:53 AM (JST) and will later be available on various international streaming platforms.

Episode 1 Story

On a December 25 where Christmas does not exist, middle schooler Kazushige Sanda finds himself targeted by his classmate Shiori Fuyumura. With no idea why she is after his life, Sanda convinces himself that her violent actions stem from a clumsy attempt at expressing affection. After school, when the two are finally alone, Sanda waits for her confession… but what comes from her mouth is something entirely unexpected.

Introduction

The stage is near-future Japan, facing an era of extreme population decline.

Children, regarded as the nation’s treasures, are strictly managed and protected in a fully residential academy under the control of adults. Meanwhile, Santa Claus (once a figure who gave dreams and hope to children) has been branded a dangerous threat, marked for elimination.

On December 25, as snow falls, junior high student Kazushige Sanda suddenly finds himself targeted by his classmate, Shiori Fuyumura.

She has discovered that Sanda is a descendant of Santa Claus and sought him out to grant her wish.

“Santa, please find my friend.”

Shiori’s wish is to find her missing best friend, Ichie Ono.

To protect the children, Sanda resolves to take up the mantle of Santa Claus and fight against the adults!

The original work is by Paru Itagaki, creator of BEASTARS, which won the Manga Taisho 2018 Grand Prize and swept four major manga awards.

Animation production is handled by Science SARU, the acclaimed studio behind Dandadan and Your Colors.
