SAKAMOTO DAYS Live-Action Film to Be Released in Late April to Early May 2026, First Look at Taro Sakamoto Revealed

The live-action adaptation of the globally popular battle-action manga SAKAMOTO DAYS (original work by Yuto Suzuki, serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump) has been officially announced. Distributed by Toho, the film is scheduled for release in late April to early May 2026, and the first visual of the protagonist Taro Sakamoto in live-action has been revealed.

Once feared as a legendary hitman whom all villains dreaded, Taro Sakamoto suddenly retired after falling in love with a convenience store clerk named Aoi. He later married, welcomed a daughter, and gained a plump physique while running his small shop, “Sakamoto Store.” However, assassins continuously appear before him, forcing him to fight with everyday items as weapons to protect the peaceful daily life of his beloved family. This solid action story blends the ordinary and the extraordinary.

Since its serialization began in November 2020, the manga has published 23 volumes, reaching a cumulative 15 million copies in circulation worldwide (including digital, as of August 2025). The TV anime, broadcast earlier this year, was also a major hit. Distributed globally on Netflix, it recorded 8.6 million views in its first week, surpassed 10.6 million views in Japan, ranked second worldwide, reached first place in five countries, and entered the top ten in 67 countries.

The newly unveiled live-action visual preserves Sakamoto’s plump charm from the original, showing him slurping instant noodles while stopping a speeding bullet with chopsticks. The image strikingly captures both his past as a legendary assassin and his present life that remains intertwined with danger.

Author Yuto Suzuki Comment

“Since elementary school, I’ve always imagined what it would be like if someone went wild in a real world setting. Now that idea is finally coming to life on the big screen, and I’m incredibly excited!”
