MAPPA Takes on Its First 'Pokémon' Project, Co-Produces MV with Contrail
The latest single from the "Pokemon Music Collective," a project that delivers new music based on the game sounds of the 'Pokémon' series, has been released. The track, "Lucky (feat. UMI)" by Nulbarich and Sunny, is now available as a digital single.
The song, produced by singer-songwriter JQ, features Nulbarich, one of Japan's leading bands known for their unique groove and international presence. It also includes Sunny, a popular producer known for working with many top artists in K-POP and J-POP, and UMI, a Japanese-American artist who gained attention with the hit single "wherever u r" alongside BTS's V. The collaboration of these renowned artists had already sparked interest even before its release.
The music video, released simultaneously with the track, is a co-production between MAPPA, one of Japan's top animation studios known for works like "Jujutsu Kaisen," "Attack on Titan: The Final Season," and "Chainsaw Man," and Contrail, a newly established animation film studio featuring staff from the production of "In This Corner of the World."
This marks the first time MAPPA has worked on a 'Pokémon' project. The heartwarming animation features characters inspired by JQ, Sunny, and UMI, as well as Pokémon like Chansey, Dragapult, and Empoleon, which share the same name as the track.
