"Demon Slayer" is so precious... Huge response to ufotable's official illustration of Mitsuri Kanroji & Obanai Iguro together: “Please hand out art cards~” “They’re pen pals!”
The movie Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc: Part 1 – Akaza Returns has been showing in theaters since July 18. To commemorate its release, ufotable posted an illustration of Mitsuri Kanroji and Obanai Iguro on their official X account on August 5. The image, which beautifully captures the closeness of their relationship, has sparked joy online and received an overwhelming response, earning 28,000 likes.

The illustration shows the two happily exchanging letters, and online reactions have been filled with excitement:

Demon Slayer is based on the hugely popular manga that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020. Set in the Taisho era in a world where man-eating demons exist, the story follows a young boy, Tanjiro Kamado, whose family is slaughtered by demons. To turn his sister Nezuko—who has been transformed into a demon—back into a human, he joins the Demon Slayer Corps and sets out to defeat the demon who killed his family. The manga has recently surpassed 220 million copies in circulation worldwide.

From April to September 2019, the TV anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc aired and quickly became a major sensation. This was followed by the release of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train in October 2020, which turned into a social phenomenon, earning approximately 51.7 billion yen in box office revenue worldwide.

Since then, Demon Slayer has been adapted into games and stage plays. The anime continued with the Entertainment District Arc airing in December 2021, followed by the Swordsmith Village Arc in April 2023, and the Hashira Training Arc from May to June 2024. Now, the story moves to the big screen with the Infinity Castle Arc being produced as a trilogy. The first installment, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc: Part 1 – Akaza Returns, depicts the final battle between Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps against their arch-enemy Muzan Kibutsuji and the Upper Rank demons, set in the demon stronghold, Infinity Castle. The film is currently showing in 452 theaters (393 standard and 59 IMAX).
