Netflix Launches ‘My Melody & Kuromi’ Stop-Motion Series with Sanrio Character Reactions and Custom Profile Icons

The stop-motion animation series My Melody & Kuromi premiered globally on Netflix on July 24. Featuring original adventures of Sanrio's beloved duo My Melody and Kuromi, the series kicked off with a special online watch party on its release day, joined by numerous Sanrio characters.

My Melody shared her excitement with fans: "Today’s finally the day♪ We're hosting a watch party at 7PM—let's watch it together!" Kuromi added, "It’s finally happening! My adventure with My Melo begins today!" The rabbit girl from France, Wish Me Mell, exclaimed, "Waaa! The watch party has begun! My Melo-chan, Kuromi-chaaaan!" Meanwhile, JOCHUM—a character born from a collaboration between JO1 and Sanrio—enthusiastically announced, "The Melo-Kuro anime watch party is starting on Netflix!"

Several other Sanrio characters also sent in messages of support. Pom Pom Purin, the golden retriever who just claimed first place in the 2025 Sanrio Character Ranking, cheered, “I’m rooting for you~♪” Cinnamonroll, the white puppy born on a cloud, said, “We’re all watching together! My Melo-chan and Kuromi-chan are so cute♪” The Little Twin Stars commented, “We wanted to enjoy the Melody and Kuromi anime together, so we brewed our favorite tea for tonight☆”

In addition, My Melody & Kuromi characters have been added to Netflix's profile icon selection. They now appear alongside globally popular shows like Squid Game and Wednesday.

The available icons include not only My Melody and Kuromi, but also Flat-kun, Piano-chan, Kuromi’s new allies Sasage (a purple fox) and Tanba (a green wolf), and Pistachio, a famous patissier cat. Fans can now customize their Netflix profiles with their favorite characters.

The series features 12 episodes, each approximately 13 minutes long, chronicling the adventures of the bright and honest My Melody and the seemingly tough but secretly sweet Kuromi. Set in the town of Mary Land, the story follows their rivalry as sweets shop owners and the mysterious events triggered by a pink heart they discover in the forest.
