Keiko Kitagawa Makes Comeback to "Sailor Moon" after 20 Years as "Sailor Cosmos" in the Animated Feature Film
On June 14, it was announced that actor Keiko Kitagawa is voicing the key character Sailor Cosmos in the second part of the theatrical version of "Sailor Moon Cosmos" (opening on June 30). Kitagawa, who played Sailor Mars/Hino Rei in the live-action version of "Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon" broadcast in 2003, will make her comeback to the world of this new film, the final chapter in the story of the popular anime "Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon," after 20 years.
The original work was serialized in the girls' manga magazine "Nakayoshi" (Kodansha) from 1991 to 1997, and is a popular work with a total of 46 million copies in print. One day, the main character, Usagi Tsukino, meets a black cat named Luna who can speak, transforms into the righteous warrior "Sailor Moon," and fights alongside her friends toward her mission to protect the princesses.
This time, a new enemy, the "Shadow Galactica," appears and targets their friends one after another, and Sailor Moon and her friends once again throw themselves into battle. Kitagawa plays Sailor Cosmos, the future ultimate form of Sailor Moon, 20 years after the live-action broadcast.
In addition, the "Sailor Cosmos PV" has been released. It shows the divine appearance of Sailor Cosmos, which has been shrouded in a veil until now, and also shows Kitagawa saying, "We will not be defeated, because we are Sailor Soldiers. Because we are Sailor Senshi. Sailor Cosmos is a warrior who is not afraid of being defeated. What kind of warrior is Sailor Cosmos? Why did she appear before Eternal Sailor Moon? And what is Sailor Moon's final answer?
Keiko Kitagawa Comment
I enjoyed "Sailor Moon" as a child and was influenced by it. Moreover, my own debut role was as Hino Rei/Sailor Mars in the 2003 TV drama "Sailor Moon," so I have a strong emotional attachment to the series and it is a truly special work for me. When I heard about this opportunity, I was so surprised that I was shaking, and I was very happy.
Sailor Cosmos, the future ultimate form of Sailor Moon, is a character that combines strength and human fragility, having overcome hardships in her past battles. Although she has a divine appearance, I hope to bring out the depth and warmth in her voice.
The movie version of "Sailor Moon Cosmos" is filled with messages about how to stand up when you hit a wall, how to look ahead when you feel down, and how to lighten the anxiety of those who don't know what kind of future they should be moving toward. In times like these, I am sure that if you see this film, you will definitely understand what I am talking about. Please see it at the theater.
