The latest episode of the Mobile Suit Gundam series, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, titled “Nyaan Doesn’t Know Sparkles,” aired on May 7 across 30 Nippon TV network stations in Japan. Among fans, the episode quickly gained attention for its unexpectedly sensual scenes featuring Machu and Shuji.

These scenes had already stirred buzz through preview images—Machu in a swimsuit and Shuji drenched in sweat wearing only a tank top. With the broadcast of Episode 5, viewers took to social media to react:

“Didn’t expect them to be lying on the Gundam in swimsuits and underwear—fan service overload!”
“The Gundam and Machu are basically telling Nyaan to buy matching underwear instead of a swimsuit.”
“Swimsuit, gym clothes, casual outfits, school uniforms, underwear… It’s a full-on service episode for Machu.”

Interestingly, while not shown in the previews, the character Nyaan also appears in lingerie in the episode, amplifying the fan reaction.

About Gundam GQuuuuuuX

Set in a space colony, the series follows Amate Yuzuriha, a high school student living a peaceful life until she meets Nyaan, a girl displaced by war. This encounter thrusts Amate into the underground world of Clumbattles, illegal mobile suit duels.

Taking on the entry name “Machu,” Amate pilots the GQuuuuuuX mobile suit and soon finds herself in relentless combat. As the story unfolds, she crosses paths with a mysterious Gundam—pursued by both the Space Forces and the police—and its enigmatic pilot, Shuji Ito, signaling the dawn of a new era.

This latest Gundam installment is a collaborative project between Studio Khara (known for the Evangelion series) and Sunrise (the studio behind all previous Gundam works). Kazuya Tsurumaki, known for directing Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, helms the project.

The series is written by Yoji Enokido, with mechanical designs by Ikuto Yamashita. The voice cast includes:
