The latest entry in the Mobile Suit Gundam anime series, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, will air its highly anticipated Episode 5, titled "Nyaan Doesn’t Know About Kira-Kira," May 7, at 12:29 AM JST. The teaser shown after last week's episode revealed the appearance of a new character, raising expectations for a major development.

In the preview, we see that Machu, Nyaan, and Shuji Ito have grown noticeably closer. There's a suggestion that Machu may arrive late to the upcoming Clan Battle due to some kind of trouble. There’s even a brief scene where Xavier Olivette hides in a locker with Machu—what could that possibly mean for the storyline?

Additionally, the preview hints at the surprising return of two iconic figures who resemble Gaia and Ortega from the original Mobile Suit Gundam. These two were ace pilots of Zeon’s legendary “Black Tri-Stars” unit. They appear piloting what looks like Dom mobile suits. In this timeline, where Zeon emerged victorious, it seems they survived the One Year War instead of falling to Amuro Ray.

The preview, however, does not show Mash, the third member of the Black Tri-Stars. Since the Clan Battle is fought in pairs, perhaps this explains his absence—but it certainly raises questions.

With Episode 4 accelerating the story’s momentum, expectations are high for the next broadcast of GQuuuuuuX.

About Gundam GQuuuuuuX

Set in a space colony, the series follows Amate Yuzuriha, a high school student living a peaceful life until she meets Nyaan, a girl displaced by war. This encounter thrusts Amate into the underground world of Clumbattles, illegal mobile suit duels.

Taking on the entry name “Machu,” Amate pilots the GQuuuuuuX mobile suit and soon finds herself in relentless combat. As the story unfolds, she crosses paths with a mysterious Gundam—pursued by both the Space Forces and the police—and its enigmatic pilot, Shuji Ito, signaling the dawn of a new era.

This latest Gundam installment is a collaborative project between Studio Khara (known for the Evangelion series) and Sunrise (the studio behind all previous Gundam works). Kazuya Tsurumaki, known for directing Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, helms the project.

The series is written by Yoji Enokido, with mechanical designs by Ikuto Yamashita. The voice cast includes:
