Jacob Romero Gibson, who plays Usopp in the Netflix live-action adaptation of ONE PIECE, made a surprise appearance on May 4 at Osaka Comic Con 2025, held at INTEX Osaka. His sudden appearance during a stage event stirred excitement and cheers from the crowd.

This year marks the third installment of Osaka Comic Con, which began in 2023 as the Kansai counterpart to Tokyo Comic Con, first launched in 2016. The 2025 event took place over three days from May 2 to 4, welcoming a star-studded lineup of international celebrities including Sung Kang, Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy, Emily Rudd, Daniel Logan, Christina Ricci, Edward Furlong, Nicolas Cage, Bill Skarsgård, and Mackenyu. Fans were able to enjoy stage events, autograph sessions, and photo opportunities.

On May 4, Mackenyu (Roronoa Zoro) and Emily Rudd (Nami) took the stage at the Celebrity Stage event, where they were met with roaring cheers from the audience—all wearing straw hats. During a photo session with fans, Jacob Romero Gibson suddenly appeared on stage, prompting loud gasps and excitement from the crowd.

Interestingly, this was not an official surprise organized by Osaka Comic Con. Gibson happened to be in Japan, and was invited to Osaka by Mackenyu and Rudd at the last minute. Thanks to their friendship, the surprise guest appearance became a reality.

Greeting the audience with a cheerful “Ohayou gozaimasu” (Good morning) in Japanese, Gibson smiled and said, “Thanks to strong friendship, I was able to join as a surprise guest. Now all of you are my friends too,” earning warm applause from fans.
