Nana Komatsu Joins Kazunari Ninomiya in Mysterious Film “Exit 8” Ahead of Cannes Red Carpet Debut

Nana Komatsu has officially joined the cast of the film Exit 8, which is set to make its world premiere at the prestigious 78th Cannes Film Festival in the Midnight Screening section. This marks Komatsu’s long-awaited debut at Cannes. Since her breakout in The World of Kanako (2014), she has expanded her international profile with roles in films such as Martin Scorsese’s Silence (2016), as well as domestic hits including Threads (2020) and The Last 10 Years (2022). She has also served as an ambassador for CHANEL since 2016, known for her distinctive presence both on and off screen.

In Exit 8, details about Komatsu’s character—including her name and backstory—remain completely under wraps. The film is described as a "game-like world" where five nameless individuals wander through a reality blurred by unexplained phenomena.

Komatsu’s Comment on Exit 8

“The theme this time is a game-like world. There are five characters, but none of them have names, which opens up many imaginative possibilities. While it’s set in a game, there are elements of modern life that feel oddly familiar and relatable. I kept wondering what path I was on amid the many strange occurrences, which left me feeling mystified throughout.

This was my first time working with Mr. Ninomiya, and he was incredibly dependable as the lead—always grounded and leading the team. His performance was both delicate and technical; it was a role only he could play.

Even I don’t yet know what kind of movie this will turn out to be. Is it reality? Is it an anomaly? I’m curious how each viewer will interpret the journey, and what sort of anomalies they’ll discover by the end.

I’ll also be participating in the Cannes Film Festival for the first time. I’m excited to see what kind of scenery will unfold before my eyes.”

“Underground Tunnel Film” Raises Global Curiosity

The latest promotional visual for Exit 8 was released alongside the cast announcement, featuring all five characters, including Komatsu, shrouded in mystery. Described as a uniquely Japanese “underground tunnel film,” Exit 8 is set to debut on cinema’s grandest stage. How it will be received by global audiences at Cannes remains to be seen.
