About Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is based on the manga of the same name, which began serialization in Weekly Shonen Sunday in April 2020. The story explores the emotional and magical journey of the elf mage Frieren, set after the defeat of the Demon King. As she embarks on new adventures with her newly found companions in a world without the hero Himmel, the narrative offers a poignant and reflective fantasy experience.
With its unique premise that begins “after the final battle,” the series has captivated readers with its heartfelt moments, memorable dialogue, thrilling magic and sword fights, and unexpected humor. The manga won the prestigious Grand Prize at the Manga Taisho 2021, and its popularity has soared ever since.
At the time of the anime’s premiere, the manga had sold over 10 million copies. That number has since grown to over 24 million copies in circulation. The TV anime adaptation aired from September 2023 to March 2024, and the highly anticipated second season is set to premiere in January 2026.
