NINKU is based on the manga by Koji Kiriyama, which debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1993. The anime adaptation aired from 1995 to 1996. The story takes place in a world recovering from a massive war between the Empire—seeking to restore imperial rule—and democratic forces.
At the height of the conflict, the Empire’s military was nearly destroyed by the Ninku Corps, a fearsome unit of martial artists blending ninjutsu and karate. But just as the tide seemed to turn, the Ninku Corps was suddenly disbanded, and the war ended with an imperial victory.
Three years after the war, a former Ninku member named Fuusuke sets out on a journey to find his mother, who was taken from him as a child. As he travels through a fractured world, he faces imperial remnants still hunting Ninku survivors and ruthless villains thriving in the chaos. Along the way, he reunites with fellow comrades and gains new allies.
The anime adaptation of NINKU features many original elements not found in the manga, delivering a unique mix of Western-inspired atmosphere and high-impact action that earned it a strong following.
