Introduction to Scum of the Brave

"Being a hero is the worst kind of business."

By the mid-21st century, Tokyo’s underworld had fallen under the control of mafia bosses enhanced by ether (magic) augmentation surgery, transforming them into
Demon Lords. In this lawless landscape, the only ones capable of taking them down are bounty hunters known as Heroes.

These Heroes use E3, a specialized drug that enhances their ether abilities, allowing them to fight back against the Demon Lords. Killing has been legalized for Heroes, turning it into a profession where bloodshed is just another day’s work.

Enter Yashiro, a freelance Hero known as the Grim Reaper. One day, an unexpected guest barges into his life—Shirogamine, a high school girl aspiring to be a Hero, who declares herself his apprentice. Begrudgingly taking her in, Yashiro soon finds himself caught up in a series of chaotic events.
