In "Battle Royale," one randomly selected middle school class out of 43,000 nationwide is forced into a brutal competition under the new educational reform act known as the "BR Act." Equipped with a variety of deadly weapons and explosive collars set to detonate upon rule violations, 42 students battle relentlessly for survival on a secluded island over three bloody, chaotic days.
Starring acclaimed actors such as Tatsuya Fujiwara, Aki Maeda, Taro Yamamoto, Chiaki Kuriyama, Kou Shibasaki, and Masanobu Ando, the film also features Takeshi Kitano delivering an unforgettable performance as the class's enigmatic teacher, Kitano.
