The "You're Under Arrest" anime adaptation celebrated its 30th anniversary with a special event, OVA "You're Under Arrest" 30th Anniversary Screening, held on March 1 at Shinjuku Piccadilly in Tokyo. Voice actors Sakiko Tamagawa and Akiko Hiramatsu reflected on their experiences with the series and surprised the audience with a live performance of the opening theme song, "100mph no Yuuki", creating an electrifying atmosphere.

The event featured screenings of all four OVA episodes produced between 1994 and 1995, followed by a special talk session with Tamagawa, who voiced protagonist Natsumi Tsujimoto, and Hiramatsu, who played Miyuki Kobayakawa. Messages from OVA You're Under Arrest director Kazuhiro Furuhashi, You're Under Arrest the MOVIE director Junji Nishimura, and series character designer Atsuko Nakajima were shared, along with a newly illustrated 30th-anniversary artwork by the original manga creator, Kosuke Fujishima.

At the beginning of the event, as the MC introduced Tamagawa and Hiramatsu, "100mph no Yuuki" started playing, and the two voice actors gave a surprise live performance. The audience erupted in applause and cheers for their unexpected and heartfelt gesture.

After their performance, the MC asked how long it had been since they last sang the song live. Tamagawa recalled singing it at an OVA event, to which Hiramatsu replied, "That must be the last time. So, about 30 years ago?"

Reflecting on the song, Tamagawa shared, "Over the past 30 years, I've met more people who weren't familiar with You're Under Arrest. But even when I sing '100mph no Yuuki' at karaoke with people who don't know the series, the energy is incredible. This song really has a special power." She smiled, adding, "I thought everyone would enjoy it, so I practiced—but how did I do?"

Discussing the milestone anniversary, Tamagawa remarked, "Thirty years ago, Shohei Ohtani was just born, right? It feels surreal to think of the time that's passed, yet our hearts haven't really changed."

Hiramatsu reflected on the series’ longevity, saying, "We've spanned different eras—Showa, Heisei, and now Reiwa. Some of the devices in the show would seem outdated today, but at the same time, the quality of the animation doesn’t feel like it was made 30 years ago. Watching it again, I realized how amazing it still is."

As part of the anniversary celebration, You're Under Arrest the MOVIE will be re-released in theaters starting March 7. The film's theatrical screening marks its first in 26 years since its original 1999 release.

Reacting to this, Tamagawa excitedly said, "That's amazing! By the way, did you notice Jun Fukuyama’s name in the ending credits of the OVA? You're Under Arrest was actually his debut work! I remember asking him, 'How do you pronounce your name?' and he told me, 'It's Miyu.'"

Hiramatsu, surprised, added, "I didn't even realize it until Sakko-chan (Tamagawa) mentioned it! When I met Fukuyama on another project, I brought up You're Under Arrest, and he told me, 'I have autographs from both of you at home.' I had completely forgotten that we signed something for him!" The anecdote drew laughter from the audience.

"You're Under Arrest" is a thrilling police-action series that follows the adventures of Natsumi Tsujimoto and Miyuki Kobayakawa, an elite duo working in the traffic division of Bokuto Police Station in downtown Tokyo. Originally serialized in Morning Party Zokan (Kodansha) in 1986, Kosuke Fujishima's manga was adapted into an anime in 1994.

The OVA series (FILE.1–FILE.4) was released between 1994 and 1995, followed by the first TV series in 1996 (51 episodes), a Special season in 1999 (21 episodes), a Second Season in 2001 (26 episodes), and a Full Throttle season in 2007 (23 episodes + 1 special). The theatrical anime You're Under Arrest the MOVIE was released in 1999.
