"Comic Market" Skips New Year's Eve for the First Time in a Decade; "C105" Scheduled for December 29-30

The official X account for "Comic Market," the world's largest doujinshi fair, has been updated to announce that this winter will mark the first time in ten years that the event will not be held on New Year's Eve.

The announcement on X stated, "Early announcement for Winter 2024's Comic Market 105! The event will take place on December 29 (Sunday) and December 30 (Monday) at the Tokyo Big Sight in its entirety. Skipping New Year's Eve is a first since C87 a decade ago."

It continued, "The first Comic Market to be held on New Year's Eve was back in Winter 2006 for C71. The decision for this date was made by the late former representative Yonezawa, who passed away in the fall of that year... It was a challenging event held without its principal advocate."

"Except for years when the calendar naturally avoided New Year's Eve (like Winter 2008's C75 and Winter 2014's C87), the event has continued to be held on New Year's Eve. However, this year marks a decade since we've opted out of a New Year's Eve celebration. We look forward to participation from both circles and the general public this winter!"
